2525 Pickering Army Cadets

The Rotary Club of Pickering is a sponsor of the 2525 Pickering Army Cadets unit of the Army Cadet League of Canada (Ontario).

The Pickering Army Cadet Corp consists of 110 Cadets made up of both males and females between the ages of 12 and 18.  We are very active in community events and the varied cadet program itself with many things to do and enjoy.  Our role is geared to develop self-discipline, confidence, physical fitness and leadership, and to become better Canadians through leadership and citizenship training.  The program is free of charge, a benefit to any parent trying to raise a family in this day and age.  Scholarship programs, exchange programs are also available to hard working deserving cadets.  Following are some of the varied benefits for the youth of today.

Many of the activities are military in origin and the program of personal and social development is based on discipline, but the overall objectives go far beyond learning how to master any one particular skill.  Courses are conducted in survival training, map reading, communications, marksmanship, drill, first aid, etc. and are based on a year-to-year progressive "Star" training program.  There are four star stages (green, red, silver and gold) at the corps level and one National Star Certification level.  Special exercises in orienteering, ski patrolling, hunter safety, biathlon, abseiling, parachuting, band and more are organized by the Corps.  Army Cadets may also participate in a number of overseas exchange courses as well as enroll in the regular Canadian Forces Parachutist course for qualified senior cadets.  Again, there is no cost to Cadets for any cadet training including the summer camps and overseas exchanges.  In addition, Cadets participating in six week camps or foreign exchanges are paid a training bonus.  Senior, experienced Cadets may apply for paid Staff Cadet positions at the summer camps to assist in running the various courses.  Cadets who have completed their staff service as well as previous National Star Certification status may be appointed to Master Cadet status.

2525 Pickering Army Cadets parade at Pickering High School Thursdays at 7 pm.
