International Projects

With the support of the Rotary Foundation and the growth of Rotary throughout the world, the ability of clubs to assist communities in the other countries increased significantly. With expanding communications technology, the developed world became aware of the desperate needs of communities in the third world. As one might expect, Rotarians responded to the need.

2005

Assisted the Durham Tamil Association following the tsunami on December 26, 2004.  Provided tutoring, books, school supplies, food and water for 3,500 Sri Lankan students enabling them to complete studies for graduation. With cooperation from the Rotary Club of Colombo South, Sri Lanka. Total project cost C$16,500.

Sent $1,300 from Night of 1,000 Dinners fundraiser.

2003

Sent $800 from Night of 1,000 Dinners fundraiser.

2002-03

Provided sanitation blocks in Kalyn, India. Total project cost $6,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.

 

Supplied a bus to transport cancer and AIDS patients in India. Total project cost $18,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $4,500.

 

Provided and set up a high school library with reference and educational text books in India and supplied a computer for learning at same school. Total project cost $6,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.

 

Supply sports and musical equipment to a school for poor children in India and develop a sports ground at same school. Total project cost $4,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.

 

Purchased medical equipment for a clinic in Maharashtra, India . Total project cost $4,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.
Delays in getting final reports on this project prevented our club from qualifying for Rotary Foundation matching grant projects until 2006.

School Expansion and Equipment Supply, Ulhasnagar, India. Total project cost $8,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.

 

Clinic and Health Centre Construction, Ambarnath, India for tribal community. Total project cost $4,000; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.

 

Sports and Cultural Centre Construction, Ambarnath, India. Total project cost $4,600; Rotary Club of Pickering contributed $500.

Female Vocational Training Program, Calcutta, India. Rotary Club of Pickering supplied knitting machines $2,400.
